David is a career researcher with specific research on multimodal learning, human-computer interaction, and generative AI (large language models and foundational models). David is currently a researcher at the University of California, Berkeley with 39 publications, over 1500 citations, and an H-index of 11 and is passionate about finding ways where AI and humans can collaborate to enhance global well-being. David has been working in generative AI and applied machine learning since the early days of GPTs including having developed and deployed Dropbox's first ever deep learning based AI for multimodal content classification, and a LLM and LMM based approach for image captioning at Google which increased MRR up to 84%. He has additional previous enterprise experience at Amazon and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. David holds a PhD and a MS from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Denver.
Andrew is a scientist turned venture capitalist with a focus on applying complex technology to legacy industries. Andrew has spent the last four years working in institutional venture capital, most recently as the LA Lead for Builders VC, a $500MM AUM firm where he led investments in PaintJet, Harmonic, and Peregrine Hydrogen among others, in addition to sitting on ten boards for Series Seed-D companies. He additionally has a robust angel investment track record with 11 investments with top decile performance. Prior to working in venture capital, Andrew was a researcher at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory with multiple publications in bioengineering, geophysics, and geochemistry. Andrew leverages his experience in mechanical design, machine learning, and hard science to intelligently combine deeply technical problems with business expertise. Andrew holds a BS from the California Institute of Technology in Geophysics and English Literature.
